چکیده
Where L is the luminosity in units 10cm s s , r is the beam aspect ratio at the collision point, Ebeam the beam energy in GeV, v the beam-beam tune shift parameter, ? v the beta function at collision point and Ibeam is the average single beam current in amperes. Our strategy for increasing L is described in reference [1]; here we will reiterate the main points. Provided the single bunch current can be kept at a reasonable high value so that a good tune shift parameter can be obtained, we are attempting to:

Cesr Status and Plans
The CESR electron positron collider has been con gured to operate with trains of closely spaced bunches that collide with a small horizontal crossing angle. The crossing angle scenario provides for an increase from seven to as many as 45 bunches per beam. Two pairs of electrostatic separators yield di erential horizontal closed orbits for the electron and positron beams. The separators are powe...
متن کاملCBN 06 - 4 June , 2006
We summarize recent running experience at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) operating as a highstatistics production-threshold factory for mesons containing charm quarks. Since beginning operation at beam energies near 2 GeV in late 2003, CESR has accumulated world-record samples of D and Ds meson decays and has also operated in an energy-scanning mode, making unique contributions to the...
متن کاملCBN 95 - 5 1 Coherency of the Long Range Beam - Beam Interaction in CESR
Making more luminosity is the name of the game at CESR these days. Luminosity is proportional to the average beam current I, the vertical tuneshift parameter y, and inversely proportional to the vertical beta function at the interaction point y . The main thrust of our e orts is to increase the average beam current by adding more bunches, without losing ground on the other two parameters. This ...
متن کاملOperating Experience with Superconducting Rf at Cesr and Overview of Other Srf Related Activities at Cornell University
In the two years past since 8 RFSC Workshop the major efforts of the SRF group at Cornell University were concentrated on the completion and commissioning of the superconducting RF system for the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) e+e− collider [1, 2]. Four singlecell niobium higher-order mode (HOM) damped cavities replaced four 5-cell normal conducting RF cavities. The RF system upgrade bega...
متن کاملBeam - Generated Detector Backgrounds at CESR ∗
The CESR/CLEO Phase II interaction region is described. The operational experience with beam-generated detector backgrounds is reviewed. The status of our understanding of beam-generated detector backgrounds at CESR is described and comparisons of background measurements with simulation predictions are presented.
